The publisher Fujimi Shobo has announced that an anime adaptation of Ichiro Sakaki’s fantasy light novel series Hitsugi no Chaika (Coffin Princess Chaika) has been green-lit.
The story follows a retired soldier named Toru Acura, who is having trouble reintegrating into society now that the war is over. Simply meandering through his life, Toru meets Chaika Trabant, a 14-year-old sorceress carrying a coffin, and decides to travel with her in the hopes finding meaning and purpose to his life again. The two travel with Toru’s adopted sister, Akari, who is employed and the only source of income for Toru.
The light novel series was launched in 2010, with illustrations by Namaniku ATK. It has already been adapted into a manga by Shinta Sakayama, and a four-panel comic by Kanikama.
