Sazae-san is Last TV Anime to Make Transition from Physical Cells to Digital

The Sazae-san television anime began airing in 1969, it celebrated its 45th anniversary this year. The series has over 2,250 episodes, and has been recognised by the Guinness World Records committee as the longest-running animated television series in the world. Now, it has been announced that the anime will switch from the traditional hand-drawn cells to a digital format next month. Sazae-san is the only anime that still uses cell animation, and with its move over to digital, there will be none left.

Machiko Hasegawa’s Sazae-san manga and the long-running anime adaptation revolve around a woman named Sazae and her everyday family life. The show follows traditional themes, and depicts life in Japan through the years.
