Team Italy Wins Top Award at World Cosplay Summit 2013

Team Italy won the top prize at this year’s World Cosplay summit in Nagoya, Japan; they previously won the award in 2010. 20 countries, including America, the UK, Thailand and China competed in the contest’s 11th year.

Andrea Vesnaver and Massimo Barbera represented Italy as as Ankoku Daishogun and Mazinkaiser from Mazinkaiser: Shitou! Ankoku Daishogun. The team won the ANA Prize as well as the Niconico Award; this is Italy’s first win in three years, having previously won in 2010. Vesnaver stated that the Ankoku Daishogun costume took four years to make.

America’s Tiffany Tezna (aka Starlighthoney) and Cassandra May (aka Breathlessaire) took the second-place LIVEDAM award as Alice and Vivaldi Queen of Hearts from Heart no Kuni no Alice – Wonderful Wonder World. America also won the Brother Prize for their costumes.

The third-place Bushiroad award went to Chittaworn and Pongwat of Thailand for their Raiden and Monsoon costumes from Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.

Other awards include The AniStar Award, which went to Hong and Park from Korea for their versions of Zero and Copy X from Rockman Zero. The JOYSOUND Award went to China’s Chen and Wang, who dressed as characters from Monster Hunter 3G. Japan’s team Sakuji cosplayed as Dracula and Alucard from the video game Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, and won the Cyperous Award for best wigs.
