Rei Toma, author of Dawn of the Arcana, is creating a new manga series; the announcement will be in the September issue of Shogakukan’s Monthly Cheese! magazine, and the manga itself will launch in the November issue on 24 September.
The announcement (pictured right) features character sketches, and the taglines read: “The protagonist is an abominable snowman!? What in the world is his ability…!?,” “The heroine is a tsundere (initially aloof and hostile, but later kind-hearted) woman!?, ” and “The setting is a normal high school you can find anywhere!??”
Toma also said a few words in the announcement, saying that because Dawn of the Arcana was a serious manga, she wanted to create something more cheerful, bright and fun to draw this time. Also, the new manga would probably be a love comedy.
More details will be revealed in the October issue of Cheese!
The latest issue of Shogakukan’s Big Comic Spirits magazine has announced that a television adaptation of Tobira Oda’s comedy manga Danchi Tomoo has been green-lit. The anime is set to premiere on the Japanese broadcaster NHK this spring.
The manga follows a fourth-grade boy named Tomoo who lives in an apartment complex with his mother and big sister. With his father away on a long-term work contract, Tomoo gets into one misadventure after another with his friends. The manga has been running since 2003, and was nominated for the prestigious Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2005, 2006, and 2007.
More details on the anime will be revealed in a future issue of Big Comic Spirits on January 28.
Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine has revealed that a third series of The World God Only Knows has been green-lit. The magazine also announced that a spin-off OVA, featuring the idol character Kanon, will be produced.
The first two series, inspired by Tamiki Wakaki’s 2008 The World God Only Knows manga series (currently on its 20 volume), were released in 2010 and 2011 respectively.
The story follows Keima Katsuragi, a high-school student who can seduce any girl… in a dating sim. Online he is known as “The God of Conquests”, but in real life he’s just seen as an intelligent and slightly gloomy geek. When Keima receives an email offering him a contract to conquer girls, he accepts, thinking it’s a game invite. But when he finds a demon from Hell named Elsie standing in front of him, he has no choice but to win the hearts of real girls in order to capture loose souls. If Keima fails, an explosive collar around his neck will detonate.
