Nominations for Eisner Awards Include Six Manga Titles

Nominations for the Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards 2013 have been announced, and six manga titles are up for two different awards. Five of these manga titles are nominated for Best U.S. Edition of International Material – Asia, and Katsuya Terada’s The Monkey King Vol. 2 (Dark Horse) has been nominated for Best Painter/Multimedia Artist (interior art).

The Monkey King is based on the classic 16th century Chinese fantasy adventure Journey to the West. Terada’s take on the Monkey King legend is a barbaric and beautiful tale, which The Portland Tribune called “a Buddhist version of Conan the Barbarian.”

Voting is held online, and ballots will soon be open on the website. The voting is open to all comic book industry professionals. Voting will close at midnight on 12 June, and the winners will be announced at a ceremony on 19 July at Comic-Con International. A full list of nominations is available here.

Yen Press Adds Two New Madoka Magica and K-ON! Manga

At a New York Comic Con 2012 panel, the North American manga publisher Yen Press announced  that it had acquired new titles for some of the most popular manga series’ available. Two of the licensed titles are spin-offs of the Puella Magi Madoka Magica series, Puella Magi Oriko Magica (by Kuroe Mura) and Puella Magi Kazumi Magica: The Innocent Malice (by Masaki Hiramatsu and Takashi Tensugi). 

 Also included are K-On! Highschool and K-On! College (by Kakifly).

Yen Press will also be publishing the bishonen manga Are You Alice?, a Soul Eater art book and volumes 5 to 7 of Highschool of the Dead in a colour omnibus edition.

The North American publishers have also revealed that they will be collaborating with Square Enix to produce digital English-language editions of Black ButlerSoul Eater and Pandora Hearts; these digital titles will be available worldwide from Winter 2012.
